My Friday Night and Saturday's homecoming

Aaron headed to Scout Camp on Friday night which meant I had the evening to myself.  I missed my guys but an evening to myself doesn't happen very often so I took advantage of it and did a couple of projects.

I started in the dining room.  At first it looked like this:

I needed one more plate to replace the white one. But after finding the perfect plate (the one on top) to tie all the colors together, rearranging them a little, and rearranging the buffet, I love the finished product!
I also decided to update my daisy picture.  Here is the before (when I hadn't hung it in the living room yet.  I painted this back in 2011):
During:
And after:
It ties the navy blue in better and...Sadie seems to like it...
But she liked it even better when Jake got home from Scout Camp the next day...

Jake was happy to see The Lego Movie waiting for him after he was all showered and in clean clothes.
They guys were pooped and this is pretty much what the rest of the day looked like.
And a little playing of the 3DS while eating his favorite home cooked meal-creamy crockpot chicken
Sadie wasn't the only one happy her boys were home. :)

Our Vintage Home: The Dining Room, Kitchen....

Living room and Jake's room...sort of.

The dining room...which still has boxes in the corner and needs pictures on the other side of the window (on top will be the SC state flag, which is really hard to find in an 8x11 so I am going to print a picture of it.  Then I will put the other two freedoms that Norman Rockwell illustrated below that...more on that when it is done...)...
...and this frame is still empty but....
...If I take pictures from the right angles you wouldn't even know it.

To the right of the dining room is the kitchen.  Which I have posted some pictures of but not enough yet.  But before we go into the kitchen...
...If you turn around you can see that closet that is next to the spare bedroom and into the living room...
...where Aaron is helping take put a ton of songs on his Ipod so he will have lots to listen to on our trip to VT tomorrow!!!   And there is Sadie...
...and here she is again...following me. :)
But back to the kitchen we go!
The table that we are using kind of as an island is the one that Aaron refinished for us to use before we got married.  It was one Mom had and passed along to us.  It had so many layers of paint that Aaron striped...Red, yellow, green, orange...So many layers!!!

My stove I love.  With my mason jars of spices that I love. And my dutch oven that Aaron and Jake gave me that I love...
And my utensil holder from my Aunt Sue and Aunt Robin from when Jake was born that I love.  It is one of my most precious treasures.
And my glass jars that I love.
And my sink that looks out onto the sun room....I am starting to think we are going to call it the sun room but I am not quite sure still..

I still need to paint the frame around the chalk board (it still says welcome home from when Jake got home from Scout Camp...I need to post those pictures too!).
From the kitchen pass through you can really be part of the action in the living room.  I love that it has the old home charm of separate rooms but the they are still open to each other like newer homes.  It is the best of both worlds!
I have laundry to fold as you can see...Don't you love our front door?  I may have posted a picture of that already at some point...I am considering coloring it a cool color but I am not sure...
 And there goes Sadie...

This is the view into the living room from the hall and if you turn around and look down the hall you see boxes that are waiting to be put up in the attic (the access to the attic is in the ceiling-pull down stairs-at the end of hall.

The spare bedroom is the first door on the left and you can barely see the little hallway that leads to the full bathroom down the hall a little way, on the right.  The door on the right at the end is our room and the door on the left at the end is Jake's
And it is clean (with 2 boxes left to unpack and a whole bunch of bins of Lego's to organize) for a few days at a time...but it always goes back to this.  Typical boy.  I made him pick it up though so better pictures are coming in the near future...

Besides the laundry room, carport, and studio/storage/slash ping pong room (I will post pictures of all that later) that is our vintage home that we love.  Sadie really seems to love it.  At our other homes she has had one or two places she has liked to sleep, but in this house she sleeps any where and every where!  I think it means she is comfortable in our new home and I couldn't agree with her more!

Because I am a giver...

...I will share a little tip.  This seems kind of obvious to me but I am a re-user...plus I LOVE candles so this is a great excuse to buy more. :)

These are a few of my favorite things Thursday!!!!

I love these candles from Walmart.  They are only $5 and they smell Ah-May-Zing!  If you like other scents go for it, but I am strictly a vanilla girl.  I like the Christmas cookie or sugar cookie smells too but that is really about it. And they are serious with the easy peel sticker.  It comes right off.
I love to light candles daily.  I love taco's but I don't want my house to smell like them.  I like garlic on about anything but I don't want my house to smell like it.  I like it to smell like vanilla. :)
And then when I have burned the whole candle I wash it out with really hot water to get all the wax out and I use the containers for storage.  That is the re-use part.  And the justification for buying more candles!
And while I am at it...here is the half bath that is in our master bedroom.
I haven't started to decorate it at all.  It will be painted (upon Aaron's request-which I am thrilled to fulfill!) at some point and made pretty.
The curtains in the whole house were left by the previous owner (aka-my "would be best friend" because our tastes are pretty similar!) and all but Jake's room (and temporarily the living room-I put them back up after feeling like we lived in a fish bowl...did I post about that...?) because he isn't into flower curtains. :)  I gotta tell you a house with just one bathroom is a big NO.  I wouldn't even consider looking at it.  But 1 1/2 baths I can work with!
And our bedroom is still in the decorating process.  I have posted a few picture of it...but here are a couple to give perspective of the lay out...The bathroom is on the wall that is too the left of the bed,..
...the opposite wall from the double windows.
The door to come in from the hallway is to the right of the closet...
...and on the same wall as the dresser and bathroom.  It is to the left of the dresser in this picture.
And if you leave our bedroom and turned left (if you came straight out the door and through the hallway you would walk into Jake's room. You can't turn right because you would run into the wall at the end of the hall.) and then take your first left, you would come to another littler hallway that leads to the full bath...which is also not decorated but will be soon.
I am going to replace our shower curtain at some point.  Not sure with what.  I am kind of loving stripes right now so maybe black (or navy) and white stripes...?  We shall see.  It won't be for a while but when I do it I will post it!
A new shower curtain, some paint, maybe frame out the mirror and a picture or two and it will look brand new!  Aaron changed out the shower head because apparently people in 1964 were short and he is not!  I will post that and all other "upgrades" when it is all done.
In the little hallway the bathroom is off there is a linen closet.  But I don't have nearly enough linens to fill it up....
...so one side is pantry and...
...and the other side is linens, bathroom cleaning supplies, and extra bathroom supplies (extra toilet paper (we are Mormons which means we were prepping before prepping was cool), shampoos, etc.
{Sigh}....I am loving our little vintage house...More to come as I organize, decorate, and unpack the last remaining boxes-there are only 5 (I think...2 in Jake's room and 3 in the dining/library) 7 (I just found 2 more...) left!  I can't wait until they are all GONE!!!!!
